The Field School of Hvar
The Field School of Hvar offers a year-round educational program on the picturesque island of Hvar, Croatia. Meet the Team
The Field School of Hvar was founded by Carolyn, an American-born educator and community builder who has made Hvar her home. Carolyn holds a degree in literature and an MBA from the University of Virginia. Her career includes leading grassroots placemaking initiatives and supporting operations at The Aspen Institute in Washington, D.C. Carolyn’s vision for the school is inspired by the island’s natural beauty and the potential for children to grow through experiential learning. She is joined by a team of dedicated educators, each focused on fostering curiosity, creativity, and a sense of wonder through personalized instruction and hands-on experiences.

Nestled among Hvar’s olive groves, pristine beaches, and historic towns, the school’s campus provides a breathtaking backdrop for learning. Facilities include outdoor classrooms, a library, and workshops for artisanal crafts and community projects. The island’s rich cultural and natural environment allows students to connect deeply with their surroundings while engaging in activities like gardening, hiking, and maritime exploration.
