Culturally connected and immersed with the local community. Wide range of varied activities to suit different interests. The greatest aspect (from a parent’s perspective) was the hosts and their hub leaders went way above and beyond what you would expect. They listened to feedback, were responsive to the needs of the kids, and adjusted accordingly.

A couple of examples of going the extra mile:

– Helped organise accommodation, ensuring it was of good standard and liaised with landlords.
– Arranged transport from the airport to the accommodation and met you on arrival.
– Did a town walk around to help families familiarise themselves with the area (best place to get fruit and veggies, meat, general groceries, bakery, takeaway, etc.).
– Collected and dropped off the kids before and after the hub every day.
– Changed the itinerary of activities when needed following feedback from the kids on what would engage them the most.
Involved them in community projects tailored to the interests of the kids.
– Offered leadership roles and responsibilities to the older teens.
– Had a great mix of culturally based activities, ones just for fun, nature-based, as well as “field trips.”

Was it perfect? No… sometimes communication was a little sparse (but only occasionally), but given this was the first time they had run the hub, it was exceptional. What I admire is the willingness to constantly improve, which I see through the changes they have made to their next hubs, directly based on the feedback they received.

How refreshing to have hub creators/leaders that really listen, respond, and act.
