Cacao Coast Classroom is a world-school hub on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica. This is our home. That’s what makes the difference.

Our connections to Indigenous and Afro-Caribbean communities, local educators and the rhythms of this coastline aren’t curated for visitors. They are simply our life here. Every educator, guide and community partner is personally chosen, locally rooted and genuinely known to us. Every group is small on purpose. Maximum 12 participants per programme.

This summer we offer two distinct three-week programmes with a week of open adventure between them — seven weeks on the Caribbean coast in total.

Seeds & Stories — July 26 to August 14 A full family immersion for children aged 7 and above. Parents participate fully alongside their children every day. 8:30am to 1pm, Monday to Friday. Culture, cooking, cacao and conservation — woven into days that feel nothing like school and everything like the real world.

Wander & Wonder Week — August 15 to 22 A free week between programmes. Stay on the coast or venture to Bocas del Toro, the Osa Peninsula, Arenal. Wherever calls you. Curated add-ons available.

Roots & Rhythms — August 23 to September 11 A drop-off programme for children aged 10 and above. 9am to 3pm, Monday to Friday. Lunch included every day. Children arrive independently and the Caribbean coast becomes their classroom. Parents have their own time.

“We weren’t just learning about Costa Rica, we were living within it.” — Parent, Caribbean Coast Costa Rica, 2026

“I learned that I’m braver than I thought.” — Age 11, Caribbean Coast Costa Rica, 2026

Meet the Team

Cacao Coast Classroom was founded by Claire and Sam, who live and work on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica. They are present across both programmes and personally respond to every application and enquiry.

Susanna is a highly visible presence throughout both programmes — on-site, known to every child and family, part of the daily fabric of the experience. At any given time at least two of the three will be with your family.

Every specialist educator is locally rooted and personally curated — from cacao and cooking to conservation, music, art and Indigenous culture. These are not hired hands. They are people whose lives are woven into this coast.

Venue Details

The Caribbean coast of Costa Rica — specifically the Talamanca Canton, Limón province. The hub is based in and around Puerto Viejo de Talamanca, one of the most biodiverse and culturally rich stretches of coastline in Central America.

Seeds & Stories is a mobile family programme — days take place across the coast, on farms, in community spaces and in the natural environment. Roots & Rhythms is grounded at a central hub location with field trips woven throughout.

Cancellation Policy

All payments made to Cacao Coast Classroom are non-refundable. This policy applies to the booking fee, deposit, and balance payment without exception, and regardless of the reason for cancellation.

Families are required to hold travel insurance that includes trip cancellation cover. This is how participants protect themselves financially against unforeseen circumstances — Cacao Coast Classroom is not able to act as a financial backstop for individual cancellations.
