Campus da Terra is a flexible, self-directed homeschooling hub located on a permaculture farm in Gaula, Madeira. Open year-round, this hub welcomes both local and traveling families for short- or long-term participation. Children (ages 5–12) engage in a bilingual, nature-based learning environment with curriculum support, hands-on projects, excursions, and multi-age collaboration.
The 390 euro monthly fee covers three days per week of learning support, with options to join for 4 or 5 days at higher rates. A one-time 250 euro enrollment fee includes onboarding, insurance, and transition support. Learning materials and devices are provided by families. Accommodations are not included; families are responsible for housing independently.

Meet the Team
The hub is co-founded by Annika Friese (BSc in Biology, educational program design) and Catherine Flores (children’s author and community builder). On-site educators include Eva Honisch, with 10+ years of teaching experience and training in democratic education, and Giulia Leoni, an art educator with a background in sculpture and museum education. Guest tutors offer classes in permaculture, mindfulness, music, and more.
Venue Details
Located on a permaculture farm in Gaula, the campus includes greenhouse space, compost toilets, animals (cats, sheep, guinea pigs), a trampoline, a mud kitchen, and an arts atelier. The site also features sheltered learning spaces, a nearby Levada trail, and access to a large parking area adjacent to a local football field.
