Your family’s 21-day adventure combines hands-on learning, cultural exploration, and meaningful connections, all set in the heart of Tanzania.

Itinerary

Week 1: Introduction to Natural Building

Dive into the art of natural building, blending traditional methods with modern techniques. This week includes three days off-site exploring hands-on projects and gaining practical skills.

  • Day 1: Arrive, settle in, and begin with grounding activities, team-building exercises, and an introduction to Swahili language.
  • Day 2: Visit local projects to learn traditional building techniques, including wattle and daub and cob construction. Create cob mixtures and help build a cob house.
  • Day 3: Explore natural plastering techniques and apply them to earthen walls at an off-site project.
  • Day 4: Design and build your own model of an earthen home. Older children can delve into concepts like drawing to scale.
  • Day 5: Return to camp and work together to create a natural structure as a team.

Weekend: Relax at camp or plan your own family activities.


Week 2: Cultural Immersion

Immerse yourself in Swahili and Maasai cultures through interactive activities, culminating in a memorable stay at a Maasai lodge.

  • Day 1: Participate in a Swahili cooking class in a nearby village, learning to make dishes like Ugali, banana stew, and coconut curry.
  • Day 2: Take a day trip to Rombo Village near Kilimanjaro to visit families in the community and explore banana and coffee plantations.
  • Day 3: Hike to a waterfall and enjoy a coffee farm tour while savoring a locally prepared lunch.
  • Day 4: Learn from a retired Maasai warrior about traditional medicine, create bows and arrows, and engage in Maasai songs and dances.
  • Day 5: Continue exploring Maasai culture through interactive activities and storytelling.

Weekend: Stay at the Osiligilai Maasai Lodge, a cultural immersion experience run by the local Maasai community.


Week 3: Art in the Natural World

Let creativity flourish as your family engages in artistic projects inspired by nature and sustainability.

  • Day 1: Create paintings with local artists on-site.
  • Day 2: Use recycled materials to craft art or make nature-inspired pieces like mandalas and weavings.
  • Day 3: Visit an off-site workshop to see how recycled materials like glass and plastic are transformed into beautiful works of art.
  • Day 4: Learn to make paper and natural dyes for your creative projects.
  • Day 5: Enjoy a free day to finish projects, present your creations, and celebrate your artistic journey.

Weekend: Enjoy a relaxed weekend at camp, or plan your own family activities.

Your registration includes accommodations, all on-site and excursion meals, guided activities, cultural experiences, transportation for excursions, and airport pick-up/drop-off. Additional costs apply for flights, drinks, souvenirs, and any meals or excursions outside the itinerary.

Not at all! Families are welcome to opt out of scheduled activities and enjoy their own relaxed day at the retreat.

Safaris are an optional add-on and not included in the base cost. Pricing varies depending on preferences like camping or lodge stays.

Transportation is included from Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA). Simply provide your flight details during registration, and we’ll arrange your pick-up and drop-off.
